Construction of a new two storey high steel framed building with concrete and metal deck composite floors housing office space, a full height lecture theatre complete with tiered seating, further teaching rooms, and two full height laboratory areas with viewing galleries.
ABA was responsible for providing a full structural design service:
- The super-structure is two storeys high and formed in steel framed construction with insulated cladding panels forming the roof, supported on cold formed steel purlins.
- The first floor is formed using composite metal deck and concrete construction with thru-deck welded shear studs provided throughout to give full composite action between the floor and the steel supporting beams.
- Lateral frame stability is provided by vertical cross braced bays located at regular intervals throughout the structure. Horizontal wind braces located in the plane of the rafters span horizontally between the vertical braced bays throughout. At first floor level, the concrete composite floors act as horizontal plate diaphragms to span horizontally between the braced bays.
- The building sub structure consists of traditional pad foundations, with a traditional ground supported floor slab.
