Meet The Team

Julie joined ABA in 2014 following a career as a Chartered Tax advisor with PwC. Her priority is to ensure that all of our clients receive the excellent client service that ABA has built its reputation upon. Julie is married to Jez and has two children, so not much spare time, but enjoys watching live bands, horse riding, keeping fit and getting out into the Derbyshire hills on her road bike.

After a spell with a local house builder, Alex rejoined ABA in July 2023 as a Technical Director

Max has over 40 years experience in the civil and structural engineering field. He started his career with ABA in 1988 having previously worked for the British Coal Board Authority. He is currently the Technical Director at ABA and has a real passion for everything engineering! He has worked across many disciplines in the engineering field and is able to bring valuable expertise and experience to projects. He has extensive experience working in the Stoke-on-Trent area. He has been the Project Director responsible for delivering projects ranging up to a value of £20m. In his spare time, he loves to ride and play the guitar.

Caroline is a Chartered Structural Engineer and member of the Institution of Civil Engineers. She has been with ABA since 1984. A hands on Engineer, Caroline is very experienced in the structural engineering design of large projects. She is fully competent in the design and detailing of structures in a BIM environment and holds full CPD accreditation. In her spare time, Caroline competes in British Eventing Horse Trials with her two horses.

Patrick joined ABA in 2021 as an engineer with several years’ experience in foundation and structural design in the residential sector. He has aspirations to become a chartered engineer with the IStructE by taking the opportunity to work on a wide variation of projects. His spare time is often spent playing football amongst other sports.  He is a member of the Burton-on-Trent Mikkeller Running Club and is also a self-confessed beer connoisseur.

Gareth joined ABA in 2015 as a graduate engineer with a couple of years experience in the construction industry. Since joining ABA Gareth has been involved in a wide variety of projects both structural and civils based. A football enthusiast, Gareth is an avid supporter of Derby County and also enjoys playing in his spare time.

Lawrence gained his Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from Plymouth University in 2016. He joined ABA in 2017 and since then has gained valuable experience in all types of projects including those in the Domestic, Commercial, Educational and medical sectors.

Linda joined ABA Consulting in 1986 and specialises in Civil Engineering, including the design and detailing of Roads, Drainage and external works schemes of all types. In addition, she has extensive experience in complex Reinforced concrete detailing. She has a wide range of experience across many sectors and is competent in using AutoCad, PDS, Microdrainage and the AEC collection software. In her spare time, Linda can usually be found on the golf course together with her son Matt, who is also a brilliant golfer.

Johannes joined ABA as an Apprentice Technician in October 2020. He completed his HNC in Civil Engineering and becoming EngTech qualified with the ICE. He is currently studying at Derby University to achieve a BEng(Hons) in Civil Engineering. Outside of work, Johannes is passionate about sports and enjoys walks in the countryside. Music and beer are also high up on the list.

Zac joined ABA in May 2024 as a Senior Civils Technician. He previously worked at Civil Engineers, SGI Shepherd Gilmour and Curtins. Out of work hours Zac enjoys spending time with family and watching football.

Elliot joined ABA straight from school in 2022 as an Apprentice Civils Technician. He successfully completed his level 3 HNC in 2024 and is preparing to start his level 4 HNC studies in September 2025. Out of work hours he can usually be found tinkering with his car.

Lucas joined ABA in the Summer of 2023 as a placement student whilst studying for his degree at Leeds university. He has now completed his degree and is back at ABA putting his learning into practice. Lucas follows Stoke City and enjoys travelling.

Alison joined ABA Consulting in 2016.  She ensures the smooth running of the office providing professional front of house reception and administrative duties, including financial and invoicing for the company.  She also provides general support to the directors and staff. She loves to travel and enjoys watching live bands.

Alan formed ABA Consulting in 1975. As Director, Chairman and a Fellow of the Institution of Structural Engineers, he provides a wealth of experience of structural and civil engineering projects which both staff and clients, both large and small, can draw upon. He also helps to win new work for the team. In his ever-increasing spare time, he is a sport enthusiast and enjoys cycling, watching rugby, football and motor sport, and keeping a keen eye on the results for Leicester Tigers and Sheffield Wednesday.
